Ten Years Younger
Ten Years Younger was written by Steven Masley, M.D. and published in 2005. His book outlines a ten-week plan to "look better, feel better, and turn back the clock." His writing style is easy to read and gives lots of good ideas to incorporate into your anti-aging lifestyle. It is a comprehensive plan that includes nutrition, exercise, detoxification, relaxation and skin rejuvenation. Many of his ideas are similar to other antiaging doctors. You can also find some of the same advice on this website.
The chapters include: Part 1 - Old Before Your Time? ➣ Chapter 1 - The Accelerated Aging Epidemic The book begins by explaining the aging accelerators. Many are ones we are familiar with such as oxidation, stress and physical inactivity. But there are some surprising ones such as a low-fat diet and inflammation. ➣ Chapter 2 - How the Body Ages This chapter explains how the various parts of our bodies age. Although this could be a boring chapter, the author uses lots of examples and layman's terms to get his point across. ➣ Chapter 3 - How Old Are You Really? Many antiaging physicians will tell you that your chronological age might not necessarily be your biological age. This chapter not only explains the five areas that are affected by aging, but gives tests to help measure them. Some tests you can do in your own home. Others you will have to see your doctor for. Part 2 - Turning Back the Clock" Chapter 4 - The Sweet Sixteen Vitality Foods These sixteen foods all contribute to an antiaging diet. Many of them are listed on the
antiaging nutrition
page of this website. Green leafy vegetables, berries, flaxseed and seafood are just a few of the sweet sixteen. ➣ Chapter 5 - The Ten Years Younger DIet This chapter outlines the ten major principles of an antiaging diet. Included are eating enough fruits and vegetables, reducing saturated fats, watching portion sizes and eating foods rich in calcium and magnesium among others. It is a very practical chapter and not only explains what you should eat, but why. ➣ Chapter 6 - Age-Busting Fitness You knew there had to be a chapter on exercise. And of course, there is. Just like my section on
fitness,
Dr. Masley explains the three major elements of antiaging fitness: aerobic exercise, strength training and stretching. In addition to comments on why exercise helps you to look younger, the author lists actual exercises that will benefit your antiaging efforts. ➣ Chapter 7 - The Relaxation Routine The short chapter extols the benefits of relaxation. Sleep, meditation, a massage and even a positive attitude will help to reduce your stress and help you to look and feel younger. ➣ Chapter 8 - Detoxification We live in a toxic world. In order to experience true antiaging results, we need to detoxify our bodies. This chapter lists things that you can do to reduce the amount of toxins that you are exposed to. ➣ Chapter 9 - Skin Rejuvenation This chapter lists some of the same suggestions as my page on
antiaging skin care.
The author lists preventative measures such as avoiding too much sun as well as suggesting ways to help your skin appear younger. ➣ Chapter 10 - Anti-Aging Supplements Although we receive many vitamins and minerals from our diets, many of us still need supplements. This chapter lists the antiaging vitamins we need in our diets. It also explains what type of supplements we should be choosing. Part 3 - The Ten Years Younger Program The second half of the book is devoted to explaining the program, particularly the nutritional aspect. The program consists of three phases. There are two weeks of menu plans and recipes for each phase. Ten Years Younger is a practical self-help book. It gives nutrition, fitness and lifestyle advice to help you look and feel younger. It is an easy read and filled with helpful information.
