Mineral Makeup

Many people use foundation to enhance the look of their skin and smooth out imperfections. Mineral makeup is a good choice for those looking for a more natural alternative.

Before thinking about foundation, the first step is to be sure you are using a good skin care line with antiaging ingredients. Putting good makeup on so-so skin provides so-so results. Skin that is healthy and radiant needs less makeup and looks more natural.

The best mineral makeup uses no artificial dyes or fragrances, but instead uses micronized mineral based pigments. This results in truer colors and less flaking or creasing. Choose makeup that is talc free. Those made with colorless mica based pigments look better. Talc has a whitish base and can flake more easily.

Some foundations contain antioxidants like vitamin A, C and E. This helps keep the oils in your skin from oxidizing and turing your makeup orange.

Above all, make sure that your makeup contains a sunscreen. Over 90% of the visible signs of aging is due to the sun. Protect your skin every time you go outside. A transparent sunscreen in the makeup will protect your skin and keep your makeup from becoming ashy looking.

Did you know that not all mineral makeup is in a powder form? We are most familiar with the powder. It covers quickly and gives a matte finish. However, as we age, powder foundation can also show off those wrinkles more easily. You may want to consider a liquid mineral foundation. It gives a dewy finish for drier, more mature skin which can result in a younger appearance.

One option that I prefer is to use a liquid foundation most of the time. However, in summer, I often use the powder especially if I'm going to be doing something active outside. I use a makeup line that is certified vegan and contains antioxidants, antiaging ingredients and a sunscreen.

No matter what you choose, be sure that you are choosing wisely as the wrong choice will give you a poor color or even worse, age you skin more quickly. And always, remove your makeup before going to sleep at night.
