Have you tried adding antioxidant recipes to your menus? Berries contain a very high concentration of antioxidants. Red and blue berries are loaded with antioxidants. And antioxidants have the ability to fight free radicals. In fact, Tufts University analyzed fruits and vegetables and found that blueberries rated highest for their ability to destroy free radicals. In addition, strawberries and blueberries are high in vitamin C.
But purple berries have even more antioxidants. Elderberries and black currants may be unfamiliar to you, but give them a try. Studies have shown that these purple berries are as much as 50% higher in antioxidants. And these free radical attackers help combat cancer, heart disease and aging.
Two berries that have come on the market recently are acai and wolfberries. Both of these berries hail from other parts of the world. The acai berry comes from Brazil while the wolfberries (also known as goji berries) come from Asia, particularly China. These two berries have been marketed as having extensive health benefits. Like other berries, these also are high in antioxidants.
Berries add important cancer fighting nutrients to your body. But berries alone don't keep you young. Berries should be part of a balanced nutritional diet that is low in sugar and high in fiber for the best benefits.
