Anti-Aging Health
It Comes from Water

Water is vital to our anti-aging health. It is essential to life. It is present in every cell and tissue in the body. In fact, our bodies are approximately 2/3 water. The exact amount in our bodies varies with the temperature, our activity and a variety of other factors.

But the fact is, most of us don't drink enough water, particularly those who are elderly. This causes our skin to dehydrate and look dry and cracked.

But what about coffee or soda? While these two are liquids, neither provide the hydration that our bodies need. Both soda and coffee act as diuretics and can actually lead to dehydration. And soda has too much sugar.

Many sodas also contain acids that leach calcium from our systems. Since calcium is important, especially to us women, we certainly don't want to be drinking something that will decrease our calcium. To properly hydrate our bodies and give us anti-aging health, we need water.

For our anti-aging health, do we need a particular type of water? Some are obviously better than others, but the important thing is to just drink more of it. Here are a few types of water and their pros and cons.

Steam-distilled - This is pure water. It has been vaporized, then condensed and cooler. All the impurities are left behind. But so are the trace minerals that are important to our health. It also can be rather tasteless. If you decide on distilled water, you may need to supplement your minerals. You can also add lemon juice to make the water taste better.

Reverse Osmosis - This method uses pressure to force water through a membrane that removes impurities and solids, even though we may not be able to see them. This method also removes salt and other minerals, so again you may need to supplement if you drink this water. Some of these units also have a UV light to kill bacteria.

Natural Spring Water - This is water that comes from a spring. That's pretty obvious. The mineral content is not altered. This water may be straight from the spring or it may be filtered or treated. Be sure to read the label to see what is in your water and where it came from.

Well Water - Again, this is obvious - it's water from a well. Not many areas have this option with developments and towns using municipal water. We are fortunate to live in the country and have our own well. It is important that you test well water to be sure that it is safe to drink and doesn't contain bacteria or other harmful substances. If it does, you'll need a filter or other system to remove it.

Tap Water - This is water straight from the tap, usually from a municipal source. This is probably the worse water we can drink. It usually contains chlorine, fluorine and various other pollutants that the treatment plants put in to "clean up" the water.

No matter what type of water you drink, for your anti-aging health, be sure that you know where it came from and what's in it. Read the labels on bottled water and never refill a disposable bottle.

Drink water for anti-aging health. Follow these tips.

➣ Drink 8 glasses of water daily. Some experts advocate drinking in ounces half your weight in pounds. (Ex: If you weight 160 pounds, you would drink 80 ounces of water.) There are other experts that say we don't need that much, however I'd rather drink more and feel better.

➣ So keep a bottle of water near you and drink often. I keep a bottle or glass with me at home, at my office and in the car.

➣ Many people drink when they are thirsty, however thirst is a sign of dehydration. So drink before you are thirsty.

➣ You'll know that you're getting enough water if your urine is almost clear. Dark yellow urine is a sign that you need more water.

➣ Drink in between meals, not with meals. This was a hard one for me to break. I loved drinking water with meals. However, it dilutes the digestive enzymes in the stomach. So, for anti aging health, only sip a little water if you need it during meals.

➣ Water also helps us lose weight because it helps our kidneys do their job properly. Sometimes we think we are hungry, but actually, we're just thirsty. So drink some water.

➣ Can't imagine drinking only water? Try some green tea, cold or hot. This great antioxidant drink is acceptable. Just don't put sugar in it. Use stevia if you need sweetener.

I gave up all soda (I never drank coffee) over five years ago. I feel great. I had a sip of soda just the other day and it was horrible. It was too sweet and tasted like medicine. It's a great feeling to know that I'm doing something positive and improving my anti-aging health.
