Growing Older or Growing Old?We're all growing older, day by day and no matter how many potions, supplements or tricks you use, nothing is going to stop it. But are you also growing old? When you read the title of this article you may think, "What's the difference?" But the difference is huge!We can't stop growing older. It's the process that begins the day we're conceived. Children can't wait to be older so they can do things that only teens can do. Teens look forward to growing older so they can have more independence. But somewhere along the line we say, "WAIT!" I don't want to grow older. I think what we really mean is that we don't want to grow old. Everyone knows someone who is "old." I'm not talking about age. I know some people who are in their eighties who are active, in good health and mind and don't ever quit. Then there are those that I know who are only in their early seventies who look and act much older. So what's the difference? Obviously, it makes a difference in how we eat and take care of ourselves. There are lots of articles about antiaging nutrition and exercises on my website. But the real key to not growing old is all in our heads. We know that we're going to grow older, but we don't have to grow old. It's all in the attitude. As you grow older do you resign yourself to thinking, "Oh no - I'm getting old!" or do you accept the fact that you're aging and look forward to new challenges? Do you want to stay young? Then follow these simple steps. 1. Learn new things - Learning doesn't stop when you graduate from high school or college. Make it a point to learn something new everyday. It may be something simple or complex. The point is - learn something!
Aging is inevitable, but growing old is not. There are many people who live active, fulfilled lives into their 100's. You can read some of their tips but a major part of their success in staying young is all in their attitude. You may be growing older, but you can do something about growing old.
In the News - Antiaging PerfumeOne of the latest innovations to hit the antiaging industry is antiaging perfume. I've read about several on the market. The first one has no smell at all. It's marketed by Dr. Perricone, a well known antiaging physician. The perfume is called Neuropeptide Synergy and is supposed to reduce stress, build self-confidence and sharpen memory. The cost is $250 for 25 ml. That amounts to about $5 a drop. Hmmm, seems like a lot to pay for mental clarity. The next perfume marketed as antiaging is supposed to make you smell younger. It's called Ageless Fantasy. Reviewers are less than enthusiastic. It's floral and sweet-citrusy and pink. One reviewer said that it reminded her of fragrances marketed to teenage girls. I don't think I want to smell "that young!" As antiaging continues to be the big marketing push, be prepared to see more antiaging perfumes.
AromatherapyThis month's newsletter is all about the difference between growing old and growing older. Stress can age us quicker than most of us realize. Make sure that you take time to relax and "smell the roses." Aromatherapy can be a great way to relax and rejuvenate your mind and body.PRODUCT SUGGESTION - One aromatherapy line of products that I enjoy is Unwind. It is made by Arbonne International and features bath salts, lotion, body mist and even a massage oil. Now that's a wonderful way to Unwind.
Antiaging - "All in your Head?"One of the best ways to stay young is to think young. But how do you keep your mind young and active? The best way is to exercise. Exercise both your body and your mind. Physical exercise keeps the mind, as well as the body, sharp. But exercising you mind may also help. There are several programs and web-based companies that are marketing products to help boost your brain power. Some are, of course, better than others. Some are free and others require a fee. One site that I've found is Brain Fitness. They provide Brain Fitness Games, Progress Tracking & Recommendations, Brain Training Circuits, Community Features, and more - online games The site, developed by a neuroscientist, includes lots of free games for memory, concentration, visual/spacial, logic & reasoning and language skills. They even provide circuit training for your brain. Of course, you do have the option to upgrade the services but even just playing the free games a few minutes each day can improve your skills. Want other ways to increase your brain power? Check out these other ideas. As to taking a supplement to increase your brain power, the studies that have been done on several so called brain supplements have all yielded poor results. So exercise instead.
Pecan Cranberry SaladSummer is here and many of us eat more salads. That's great for anti-aging. This salad is wonderful for a light supper or lunch. The great thing about it, is that you can add more or less of any of the ingredients to your liking.1 head of greens (Romaine, green leaf lettuce, a spring mixture, etc.) 1/2 cup dried cranberries 1/4 cup chopped pecans 1 Tbs. butter flavored grapeseed oil 2 ounces feta cheese Healthy dressing (cranberry vinegrette, house dressing, etc.) Toast the pecans with the grapeseed oil in a small saute pan over medium low heat. Stir often and watch that they don't burn. When nicely toasted. Spread on a paper towel to cool. Tear the greens into bite sized pieces in a serving bowl. Sprinkle the cranberries, pecans and crumpled feta cheese over the greens. Serve with dressing. You can either add the dressing and toss to serve or toss and allow each person to dress their own salad.
