Antiaging ExerciseIf you're like most of us, we know that taking care of our skin can help us to look younger. But what about exercise? Can antiaging exercise really affect our efforts to look and feel younger?Believe it or not, yes. Maintaining a moderate to high activity level is key to keeping young. When asked for their longevity secrets, many centenarians credit keeping active as a main component. What makes exercise so great? Well, for one, it reduces your risk of heart attack and stroke as well as lower blood pressure. That in itself contributes to an antiaging strategy. Exercise can also help to strengthen bones. Women who don't exercise are prone to more bone fractures. These are just a few benefits to exercise. There are many more. Studies show that exercise increases one's life span. Prevention stated that, "A study of 14,000 women and men showed that moderate levels of physical fitness increased life span." So what should you do? Anything that you enjoy. Get out and walk. Buy a bicycle (and use it). Use an exercise DVD. If you're not sure which one check out the Exercise DVD Review page on my website. If you do use an exercise DVD, write a brief review to help out others. Find a friend or your spouse and work out together. If you haven't been active, start slowly. Check with your doctor for his recommendations. But no matter what, do something. Increased activity will definitely help with your antiaging efforts.
Happy Birthday, Professor ZhengThe oldest living professor, Zheng Ji recently celebrated his 109th birthday. Professor Zheng, an anti-aging biochemist in China continues to teach and perform research. He published a book on maintaining health and enjoying long life when he was 100 years old.His longevity secrets? A positive attitude and physical activity. He also states that living a healthy lifestyle and avoiding toxins contribute to a longer life. Skin Care that's Worth its Weight in PlatinumJust when you thought you've heard of everything. La Prairie, a Swiss skin care company, recently introduced its newest skincare cream. It's called Cellular Cream Platinum Rare and it only costs $1,000 for a 1.7 ounce jar. Why so expensive? It actually contains colloidal platinum water. Of course, there are anti-aging ingredients and moisturizers in it too.I don't know about you, but I certainly don't have an extra grand laying around to put into skincare. Does it work? I don't know. I haven't seen any reports or reviews on it. It may be too expensive for anyone to review. Sorry, I can't do it either. There are a lot of anti-aging products out on the market. Some work well, others not so much. But certainly many of them are a lot less expensive than La Prairie. PRODUCT SUGGESTION - Another Swiss skin care company with products that are much more reasonably priced is Arbonne International. I have tried these anti-aging products and they work for me. You may want to give them a try yourself. You can find the anti-aging products for men and women at Arbonne.com. For $1,000 you can buy the complete line of anti-aging products for both women and men and still have lots of money left over. Eating and ExercisingOnce you start exercising, you may wonder if you need to make a change in what you eat. After all, shouldn't you eat more protein. Actually, no. The best food choices when exercising are complex carbohydrates. In addition to providing more energy, complex carbs will increase your endurance. The difference between complex carbohydrates and regular carbs is the sugar. Complex carbs are whole foods; whole grains, beans, lentils, peas and potatoes. Did I just say potatoes? Yes, believe it or not, the poor potato often gets a bum rap. It's not the potato - it's the butter, sour cream, etc. that we put on top. Try unflavored yogurt as a topper instead, or fresh broccoli. Complex carbohydrates will fill you up and also helps to reduce the calories that you absorb from your food. You'll eat less and your body won't take in as may calories. That sounds good to me.
Bean EnchiladasThis dish is loaded with complex carbohydrates. Using whole wheat tortilla shells increases the nutrition.1 cup cooked or canned kidney beans Mash beans until smooth. You can use a potato masher, food processor or blender. Saute onion and garlic in a small amount of water until they begin to brown. Add spices, tamari, lemon juice and beans. Soften tortillas by dipping each one briefly into boiling water in a small skillet. Place about 1/3 - 1/2 cup of bean mixture on each tortilla and roll up. Place seam-side down in a casserole dish and cover with taco sauce. Sprinkle with cheese. Bake for 15 - 20 minutes at 350 or until cheese melts and sauce bubbles. Makes 4 servings.
