The Age of Antiaging

Everywhere you look, you'll see advertisements for anti-aging products. Years ago only the rich and famous were able to afford any type of anti-aging treatments, but today they are commonplace.

There are thousands of antiaging clinics particularly across the United States and others around the world. Antiaging has become big business. But be sure you know what you are buying. Peter Keating, writing in the Wall Street Journal states that, "...No drug, nutritional supplement or medical regimen has been proven to extend human life spans." So what are people looking for?

I think that we are looking to improve the quality of life as we age. In short, we want to look and feel younger than we really are.

Scientists are constantly on the lookout for that "fountain of youth" in a bottle. But are drugs and injections the answer? I know that I want to be careful about what I put on my skin and in my body. I want to know what the long term effects are going to be and there are some products that I'm just not sure about.

Antiaging skin care has become quite popular but what should you look for? Readers Digest (Rd.com) recently gave a list of ingredients clinically shown to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin E
  • Alpha hydroxy acid

If you are looking for skin care products that contain all of these ingredients, consider botanically based products from Arbonne International for both men and women. These products not only contain quality antiaging ingredients but are also free of potentially harmful or allergy causing ingredients. One of the wonderful things about the human body is that you can start looking and feeling younger no matter how old you are. Of course, you won't get the same results if you start later in life, but you can make improvements so take good care of your skin.

In the News - Are You Burning?

I found an innovative product featured on a television news segment that may help us avoid aging sun damage to our skin. It's a UV sun monitor called Solar Safe. Solar Safe are wristbands that are worn when out in the sun. You apply sunscreen to your body and the band. As the band is exposed to sunlight it begins to change color, warning you when you need to apply more or get out of the sun altogether. What a great idea. You can find them at Rite Aid or Longs Drugs Stores in the US.

Toxic Antiaging

We are bombarded with toxins every day. Toxins in our air & water affect not only our lungs but also our skin. Chemicals start to build up on our skin and in our bodies. Consider a regular program of detox to keep your skin and body functioning properly. There are various detox programs available on the market for your inner cleansing. But don't forget your skin. It needs detoxing as well.

PRODUCT SUGGESTION - Enjoy a relaxing soak in the sea soak from Arbonne International. Made from a botanical sea extract complex, this soak contains bladderwrack, sea kelp, spirulina, sea fennel and atoligomer sea salt to help relax your body and purify and nurture your skin. It also helps soothe skin that has been in the sun.

Antiaging Remedies

You want to look and feel younger. But what really helps to keep us young? If you've visited my website, you may recognize these factors: Exercise, good nutrition, and reduced stress. But did you know that getting enough sleep and having a good attitude also contribute to a youthful life? These are just a few of the antiaging remedies that I've discovered. Check out my latest article on antiaging remedies.

Fitness After 50

And speaking of exercise. I found the best exercise book for those who are just thinking about getting started exercising or those who are working on putting together a fitness program.

Just like anything else in our lives, we have to make up our minds and have the right attitude before we can actually accomplish our goals. It's the same with exercise. You know you should do it. You may even have bought a well intentioned piece of exercise equipment, but unless your mind is focused, you'll just have another item to sell at your next garage sale.

This is a great book, written by 3 experts over the age of 50. They give advice on starting a program of fitness whether you want to just increase your physical activity or really jump in and get fit. You can read more about this book on my latest book review page.

Summer Cooking Tip

Who feels like cooking in the lazy, hazy days of summer here in North America? I'm always on the lookout for healthy meals that don't require the oven. One tip is to choose meals that you can make early in the day when it's not so hot and don't require reheating. Then, enjoy the day and bring supper out when the gang is hungry. An example is the Summer Tuna Salad. This main dish salad is great for lunch or a light dinner.

Summer Tuna Salad

1/2 cup unpeeled apples, diced
1/2 cup seedless grapes, halved
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
2 61/2 oz. cans tuna, packed in water, drained
1 cup cooked navy beans
head of romaine or green leaf lettuce

Dressing
1 cup plain yogurt
2 Tbs. tahini
3 Tbs. tomato paste

Combine the apples, grapes, walnuts, tuna and navy beans. In a small bowl combine the yogurt, tahini and tomato paste. Lightly mix the dressing into the salad. Refrigerate until serving time. Serve on romaine or leaf lettuce.
