Can you believe it? Christmas is on Thursday and the New Year begins next week. People all over the world will be taking time to celebrate and reflect. It's also a time when many people take a good hard look at their lives and resolve to make some changes. This issue of the Antiaging Extra will give some tips in areas that you may wish to change.

New You Resolutions

It's New Year's resolution time once again. If you're like me, you sit down on January 1, make a list and by January 2 (or 3 if I'm really good) I've already given up on my resolution. This year, instead of making grand resolutions, make a plan to work toward feeling and looking younger. Lots of antiaging tips can be found on my website, but here are just a few tips on how to get started.

  • Start small - This is probably the best tip I can give. Don't try to change your entire life at once. You'll be overwhelmed and instead of making steady progress, you'll fall back into poor health habits.

  • Resolve to make one food change each week - This week add a few cruciferous veggies to your diet. Next week, reduce the amount of sugar you eat. By making changes gradually, it's easier for your body to accept them. Soon, you'll be eating a diet that helps your body stay younger.

  • Resolve to add 15 minutes of exercise - 3 days a week - Now this may not sound like much - and it isn't. That should make it doable. Once you get into the habit (remember it takes 21 days to establish a habit), increase the time by 5 minutes (or add another day). Continue to increase your time until you are exercising regularly at least 30 minutes, 3 times a week for cardio plus 2-3 days of strength training.

  • Resolve to start reading labels - This means the labels on your food and the labels on your health care products. Make sure that there are no harmful ingredients in them.

You can use this method to accomplish any new goals. Don't go crazy, but do set small attainable goals and soon you'll find that your New Year's resolutions will result in a New You.

Additional Income

If you're watching the news or reading the paper, it doesn't take long before you'll come across a story about our current world economics. Many people are looking for something else to fall back on or just to put a few extra dollars in their pockets. Some folks just don't like the idea of someone else controlling their financial future. I'm almost 50 so I definitely want to make sure that my retirement is comfortable, and it's not too early to start.

I started an income generating website based on one of my interests. Do you have a passion for a hobby or past time? Do you want to share some of the information you've learned about a medical condition or disease? All of these can be turned into lucrative websites. If you want to learn more about starting your own web business, contact Sitesell. See if it's right for you. You can even try it risk-free.

Increase Your Energy

Parties - Shopping - Wrapping - Family Gatherings - Stress - What do all these have in common? They zap our energy. Make sure that you get enough sleep during the holidays. Don't eat too much sugar and try some stress reducers to keep your energy up. Still dragging?

PRODUCT SUGGESTION - You may want to try an energy drink. Surprised that I've suggested that? I don't mean just any energy drink. I use one that doesn't contain sugar or artificial sweeteners. It gives me energy and increases my metabolism. You can find the NRG Go3 Fizzing Beverage Tablets here at Arbonne International.

A Sparkling Smile

I've just started using a whitener to whiten my teeth. Whiter teeth make you look younger. Even if you aren't very old, yellow dingy teeth make you look older. So use a great toothpaste (& floss) and if your teeth are looking less than white, consider whitening them. You can find out about different methods of whitening on my newest web page.

Forget the Green Bean Casserole - Try this Veggie Medley

As much as I love the traditional green bean casserole, it's really not all that healthy. Those french fried onions, the condensed soup - there has to be something better. I found a tasty recipe using cauliflower, broccoli and carrots. You can cut up fresh veggies, or use a bag of frozen to save time. Either way, the health benefits are fabulous - and it tastes great too.

Swiss Veggie Medley

1 1/2 Tablespoon butter
3 Tablespoons whole wheat flour
3/4 cup milk (I use almond milk)
3-4 teaspoons dry ranch style salad dressing mix (choose one without MSG and hydrogenated oil)
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 cup chopped onion
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1/3 cup sour cream ( I use raw organic sour cream)
1 cup shredded swiss cheese (divided)
1 1/2 pounds cut up cauliflower, broccoli and sliced carrots (or use a bag of frozen)
1 cup fresh whole wheat bread crumbs
Olive or grapeseed oil

Make a white (or semi-white) sauce by melting butter in a saucepan over low heat. Stir in the flour. Mix well, then slowly add the milk, stirring constantly. Continue to stir as you bring to a boil. Cook until thickened. Stir in dressing mix, pepper and sour cream and set aside.

Meanwhile cook cauliflower, broccoli and carrots until crisp tender. Drain.

Preheat oven to 350. Put a small amount of oil in a skillet. Heat over medium high heat. Add the onion and garlic. Cook and stir until the onions are nicely browned. Remove half of the onion mixture and set aside.

To the remaining onions, add the veggies, white sauce and 1/2 cup of swiss cheese. Pour into a casserole dish. Combine the reserved onions, and the bread crumbs. Sprinkle over the casserole. Bake uncovered until heated through 20 - 30 minutes. Sprinkle 1/2 cup swiss cheese on top and bake for another 5 minutes.

This isn't a low calorie recipe, but one I use for company especially at Christmas.
