Dysport and Botox

You may have read about or even tried Botox to eliminate or reduce your wrinkles. Did you know that there is a new product on the market called Dysport?

Dysport and Botox are similar. Both use botulinum toxin A, a protein that relaxes muscles to relax the muscles of the face and reduce or eliminate wrinkles. Botox has been used in the US for many years and lasts around 3-4 months.

Dysport has been used in Europe for years and has the same track record. It also has to be reinjected every 3-4 months. Dysport was approved by the FDA in April of 2009 and is now available to physicians and consumers.

Some studies suggest that Dysport may last a little longer. It also may start working a little bit faster. The major difference is in the dosage so be sure the doctor you choose is experienced in using Dysport. It is also slightly cheaper, which may help boost it's sales in the long run.

Regardless of which option you favor, be sure that you want to inject a toxin into your body. Most of us are trying to detox not add more toxins. There are other more natural options to Dysport and Botox but they may not give you the dramatic results that you are looking for.

You can find some of these options at Effective Antiaging Tips.com.

In the News - New Lady Drink combats aging

What's your favorite health drink? Green tea? Water? Now there's a new drink on the market that claims to reduce PMS symptoms, get rid of toxins, clear up acne and be anti-aging - all in one drink.

It's called Herbal Lady Drink and is sold in Whole Foods Markets. It contains no sugar or artificial sweeteners. It is sweetened only by the natural herbs that are in the drink. The main ingredient is motherwort, an herb used in traditional Chinese medicine. Naturopathic doctors state that motherwort is good for women's health. Other ingredients include aloe, saffron and fructus momordicae.

While all of these herbs can contribute to a women's health, there is still some doubt as to whether there is enough of the herbs in the drink to be a benefit. I haven't tried Lady Drink yet as there isn't a Whole Foods Market in my area. However, even if the benefits aren't as dramatic as the manufacturer claims, it's still a good option and much better than drinking soda.

If you've tried Lady Drink, why not contact me and let me know your experiences. One caution, the manufacturer has stated that Lady Drink may cause diarrhea because of the natural detoxification process that may occur.

Zzzzzz'z

So what's one antiaging tips that many people don't think about? Sleep. That' right, getting enough sleep may be one of the most important things you can do to improve your health. Many studies have shown that we don't get enough sleep. Teenagers, young adults, middle aged, the elderly - it doesn't matter, many are not getting the sleep they need.

Lack of sleep can cause health problems like hypertension and irregular heartbeats. It can cause your skin to lose it's healthy glow and your eyes to look dull and lifeless (and old). It can even increase stress hormones that can cause weight gain.

There are many things that you can do to improve the quality of your sleep. Going to bed at a regular time, limiting caffeine and alcohol. Even something as simple as getting a new pillow can give you a better night's sleep.

If you have trouble falling asleep, you may want to try a warm bath or a warm drink before bed. Try aromatherapy. I use an essential oil blend on the sleep pressure points of my feet before going to bed. It has helped me to fall asleep quickly.

Make sleep a priority. Don't deprive yourself all week then try to catch up on the weekend. It doesn't work. Get the sleep you need. You'll feel better, work more efficiently and be much healthier.

Quick Tips

  • Get your digestive system going in the morning with hot lemon water. Squeeze the juice of 1/4 - 1/2 lemon into a cup of hot water before eating.

  • Condition dry hair with virgin coconut oil. Massage a small amount into your scalp and hair. Let sit 10-15 minutes and rinse. Use as needed.

  • Starting to exercise? Be sure to warm up for 5-10 minutes by walking or biking before jumping into vigorous exercise. It will protect your muscles and joints
  • Feeling stressed? Singing childhood songs (Itsy Bitsy Spider, Row, Row, Row Your Boat, etc.) helps bring happy feelings.

  • Pumpkin Muffins

Okay, if you got last month's newsletter you saw a recipe for muffins. I've put another muffin recipe in this month because I love these pumpkin muffins and pumpkins are in season in Lancaster County. Pumpkins are high in beta carotene and low in fat. These muffins use honey instead of sugar. They freeze well and are delicious.

    Ingredients
    1 cup honey
1/2 cup grapeseed oil or olive oil
    3 eggs
1 1/2 cups canned organic pumpkin
    1/4 cup water
3 cups whole wheat pastry flour
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
    1 teaspoon baking powder
    1/2 teaspoon sea salt
    1 cup pecans, chopped

    Directions
Combine flour, cinnamon, baking powder and salt. In another bowl, combine honey, oil, eggs, pumpkin and water. Add dry ingredients to liquid and stir until just moistened. Add the pecans. Spoon into greased muffin tins or use paper muffin liners. Makes about 2 dozen.

Bake in a preheated 400 degree oven for 15-20 minutes. These are great for breakfast or a snack. They would also be nice for your Thanksgiving meal.
