7 Secrets to Beauty, Health and Longevity
Dr. Perricone's 7 Secrets to Beauty, Health and Longevity was written by Dr. Nicholas Perricone, MD. and published in 2006. This book is one of many written by this #1 New York Times bestselling author.
I did enjoy reading this book however a few of the chapters get a little bogged down in technical jargon. Although I appreciate the science behind cellular rejuvenation, I much prefer a book that just tells me how to get results with only a little of the "why."
Even if you are like me and don't need the entire explanation, there is still much in the book that will be of benefit. Dr. Perricone's writing is interspersed with "stories" of those whose treatment has been successful. The chapter outline below will give you a peek at what is in the book.
There are 7 secrets to beauty, health and longevity. Each one is given its own chapter.
Chapter One: Cellular Rejuvenation
The book begins with an explanation of cellular rejuvenation and the effects that inflammation have on aging. This chapter is probably the most "technical" however, it also gives a lot of good advice on what foods decrease inflammation and rejuvenate cellls.
Chapter 2: Lean for Life
It's no secret that many people gain weight as they age. This chapter gives helpful advice on what to eat and what to avoid to keep you at a healthy weight.
Chapter 3: Supporting Our Support Structure
Although we hear mostly about women getting osteoporosis, men are not immune to this disease. This chapter explains how you keep your bones healthy and build better bones.
Chapter 4: The Skin We're In
"Perhaps the most discouraging inspect of aging is aging skinÉ" This quote begins chapter 4. Here, Dr. Perricone explains what happens to your skin as it ages and how to achieve younger looking skin. There is a bit of medical terminology in this chapter, but it is also filled with great information concerning both diet and topical treatments.
Chapter 5: Sex for Life
This chapter maintains that there is a correlation between a healthy sex life and longevity. This chapter offers suggestions ranging from food to fragrance to help you achieve both.
Chapter 6: Reversing Aging Through Exercise
If you've explored this website in any depth, you may have noticed that I mention
exercise frequently. This chapter explains various methods of exercise, including some surprising suggestions, that will help you to keep your body and mind strong.
Chapter 7: Stress Reduction = Life Extension
Research has shown that
stress accelerates aging. In this chapter, Dr. Perricone offers advice on reducing stress including nutrition and exercise.
The last portion of the book contains and extensive reference section plus several informative appendices. Appendix A tells you how to set up an anti-aging kitchen including some delicious sounding recipes.
There is also a helpful resource section to help you find some of the products and foods that are suggest in the book. I enjoyed reading Dr. Perricone's 7 Secrets to Beauty, Health and Longevity and plan to add some of the advice into my anti-aging routine.
